What is the interest rate?

Ask your account manager for our latest Notice Deposit rates.

Interest is calculated on the daily balance of the account. If interest is payable, it will be paid into the account or, at your request, into any other current account you have with us. Interest is payable on the last working day of the month and on the closure of the account if the account is closed on a day that is not the last working day of a month.

Can Handelsbanken change the interest rate?

Yes, the interest rate is variable and can be changed at any time.

We may change the interest rate for any of the reasons set out in our Individual Banking Terms and Conditions. See Section K of our Individual Banking Terms and Conditions for the reasons why we may change the interest rate, and see Section R of our Individual Banking Terms and Conditions for the notice that we will give you.

Interest will be paid gross (without the deduction of tax).

What would the estimated balance be after 12 months based on a £5,000 deposit?

Deposit at account opening
Balance after 12 months
Interest Earned
£5,000
£5,155.00
£155.00

This is an example only that assumes a rate of 3.10% AER*  and does not take into consideration your individual circumstances.

*Annual Equivalent Rate (AER) is a figure which shows what the interest rate on an account would be if interest was paid for a full year and compounded.

The example assumes that:

  • you don't pay any more money in or take any money out;
  • the interest rate doesn't change, and
  • interest is paid into the account.

How do I open and manage my account?

Opening an account

You can open a Notice Deposit Account if you:

  • are aged 16 or over;
  • are a UK resident, and
  • have a current account with us.

If you'd like to open an account, contact your branch and ask for an application form.

You may close your account without charge within the first 14 days after the date on which your account is opened or the date you receive our Individual Banking Terms and Conditions, if that's later. You can do this by contacting the branch where your account is held either in writing or by such other method as we may agree.

Managing your account
The minimum amount that must be deposited to open an account is £5,000.
We may at any time apply a maximum limit on the amount of money you can hold in your account. Any maximum limit won't be less than £1,000,000 (unless there is a legal or regulatory requirement for us to apply a lower maximum limit).
You can communicate with us and manage your account by writing to us at the branch where your account is held or by calling that branch (and we may ask you to confirm your instruction in writing).

Can I withdraw money?

Yes. You can withdraw money from your account at any time by writing to us at the branch where your account is held or, if the money is to be transferred to another account you hold with us, by calling that branch (and we may ask you to confirm your instruction in writing).

If you have a 10 Day Notice Deposit Account, you need to give us at least 10 days' notice before you withdraw money from your account.

If you have a 35 Day Notice Deposit Account, you need to give us at least 35 days' notice before you withdraw money from your account.

If we receive your notice after 10am on a working day or on a day that isn't a working day, the notice period starts on the next working day. If money is due to be withdrawn from your account on a day which isn't a working day, the money won't be withdrawn until the next working day.
